Laurie Hartjes receives the 2004 Pediatric Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award from WAPNAP

WAPNAP is pleased to announce that Laurie Hartjes NP is the recipient of the 2004 award for WAPNAP Pediatric Nurse Practitioner of the year. Her nomination says, “Laurie is active as an educator in the nursing field, a clinician, an advocate for children and especially adolescents, and an environmental naturalist locally in Madison.” She received her BS and MS in nursing from the UW-Madison. She has been a public health nurse in Milwaukee and has worked as a PNP in both Rockford, IL and Madison, WI.


Laurie's current position is Clinical Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, UW-Madison. This position involves precepting students and coordinating clinical preceptor sites as well as lecturing on a wide variety of topics. She also maintains a volunteer practice at Madison Community Health Center, a federally-funded health center that serves a largely uninsured patient population. Laurie has been involved in WAPNAP for many years. She served on the board in the past, and currently serves as Liaison to the Society of Adolescent Medicine. She is very committed to education and is a program chairperson for the WNA Annual Pharmacology and Clinical Update.


In addition to her busy professional life, Laurie is a wife and mother to two adolescent young woman. She is a certified environmental educator and has a part-time appointment at the UW-Arboretum.. This includes serving as a program planner and guide for the Naturalist/Guide and Earth Partnership for Families Program.
