Brief Overview of the Vilas Neighborhood Association
With a population of around 2000, the Vilas neighborhood community has
been described as intellectual and artistic. The 195 acre neighborhood includes
Jewish, Moslem, Catholic and Protestant houses of worship. With architectural
styles ranging from Victorian and Queen Anne, to Craftsman, Georgian revival
and Tutor, the average house price sale in 2005 was $203,360. Additionally, the
neighborhood includes student housing and apartment buildings. A consistent
appeal of the Vilas neighborhood has been the small town atmosphere created by
area businesses many which are within walking distance of most residents. It
has been said the life of the neighborhood is related to the businesses along
Monroe Street as well as Park Street. (Source: City of Madison)
Reorganized in the Spring of 1992, the Vilas Neighborhood Association (VNA) now
includes members from approximately 200 households. The Association's purpose
are enhancement of the neighborhood's residential character and attributes, and
the promotion of camaraderie among the neighborhood's residents.
New members are always welcome. All members are encouraged to suggest new
activities and issues in which the VNA may consider getting involved. We hope
you find this information useful and that you are motivated to become involved
in Association activities.
