On Earth Day, Saturday, April 17th, over 50 Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood Association families, together with Urban Open Space Foundation members and other citizens from the community, planted over 200 trees, shrubs, and bushes along the Yahara River Parkway in Tenney Park. Although rain was forecast, the skies were clear while the temperature remained crisp.

Neighbors and community members gathered to dig, plant and mulch. Children helped to water the newly planted trees and shrubs. After planting, everyone enjoyed snacks provided by MG&E.

The plantings will be enjoyed by everyone who comes to the park. The newly transplanted saplings and shrubs will be visible to cyclists, boaters, paddlers, hikers and all park enthusiasts. Many thanks to the Urban Open Space Foundation which secured the grant to plan the installation and purchase these trees and shrubs for the Yahara River Parkway! Also, thanks go out to all of the many volunteers. Students, neighborhood association members, friends, Foundation members, young and old, kudos to everyone who lent a hand. Watching our community working together to make our neighborhood park even more beautiful was a wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day 1999!
