As I write this, I've
been in office as alderperson for the second district for five days. New alders got a two week rest after
the campaigns and jumped right into the fire, so to speak. We were sworn in on Tuesday, April 17th
and that evening we made decisions about redistricting and the size of the
Council for the next ten years and the definition of affordable for use of TIF
funds.
That evening we also
approved the committee assignments for alderpersons. I'll be on the following committees: Transit and Parking Commission,
City-County Liaison Committee, Madison Development Corporation, BUILD, Yahara
River Parkway Implementation Committee and continue to serve on the EOC Housing
Committee and Backyard Parking Implementation Committee.
Beyond that, I've been
busy getting oriented, getting my laptop set up, getting new e-mails, keys and paswords for various things and
setting up meetings with department and division heads to determine what they
do, what issues they are aware of
in the second district and who to call when we have issues and concerns in the
second district. I have about two
weeks of nothing but meetings with City staff. I've also been getting calls from developers and have
already gotten requests for park usage and liquor licenses in the district.
Finally, I'd like to
thank Barbara Vedder for her years of service to the district and her help in
answering so many of my rookie questions and giving me the heads up on all of
the district issues over the past few months. The second district has alot of challenges ahead and we've alot
to work on together. I'll continue
to forward any information I can pass along about district issues and if you
have any questions, concerns,
issues, etc. please feel free to contact me at: district2@council.ci.madison.wi.us or brendakonkel@yahoo.com,
251-2412 and if it's urgent, you can call my cell phone at 345-8720. Thanks for your support during the
election and I look forward to working with you!
