Minutes of the Old Market Place Neighborhood Association
Members: Bob Sommerfeldt, Lee Christensen, Mark Schlei, Judy Wilcox, Lisa McGinnis, Pat Brenz, Erik Minton, Jim Roper and Sonja Moskalik. Nonmembers: Rebecca Krantz.
Our application for funds from the State Historic Society has been turned down on the grounds we do not have enough historic properties in our neighborhood. Our historic building percentage is to low.
Judy Wilcox asked that we vote in the coming election. She said with our meeting on a different weekday evening, she should be able to make more of our meeting in the future. She feels the major focus of the County Board will be the budget with the continued loss of funds. She said a lot more goes on in County Board meetings than most people realize. If anyone has questions about what the County Board does or any other questions contact her.
After some discussion a motion was made to continue with the current officers as long as they are willing to fill the positions. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
There was a general discussion on what to do about funds for a neighborhood plan for the area from Blair to the Square. Erik Minton suggested we go door to door asking for funds. He suggested we aim at raising about 3 thousand dollars. Rebecca Krantz donated 5 dollars towards the cause. It was also suggested we put together a committee to focus on how and from whom to raise the funds. There was a long discussion of where we want to continue with OMPNA or join either Tenny-Lapham or Capital Neighborhoods, or possibly just dissolve back into the separate neighborhoods we started with. It was decided for now to continue with what we have and see how we progress.
We do need to work on increasing our membership. It was suggested everyone come to the next meeting with at least one idea on how to go about increasing our numbers. It was also suggested each member bring one more person to the next meeting. Judy Wilcox suggested we start with the voter registration lists. She offered to extract the individuals in our neighborhood who would be potential members. Other ideas suggested were to get the agenda put together earlier with hopes of attracting interest. To hold some sort of get together were neighbors could meet and get to know each other out side of the official meetings.
Safety. There have been instances of men trying to bait women into vehicles. With an increasing number of these types of incidents being reported around Madison it would be a good idea to have a police officer come and speak to us about what can be done by us to increase our safety. Suggested to get the east side police report back on the OMPNA list.
Rebecca Krantz requested a new representative from our organization to EINPC. No one came forward. If anyone is interested, contact Lee Christensen.
