Introductions.

Reports:  President’s Report – We had applied to the State Historic Society for a grant for funds to do a Neighborhood Plan from Blair to the Square.   We were not awarded any funds.  We had also applied to the city for matching funds but with no funds to start with the Neighborhood Plan funding is dead for this year.

East Wash. Reconstruction Report.  Bob Sommerfeldt brought us up to date on what is happening with the project.   While it is not known how budget changes made by our new governor will effect progress, the city is hoping to make up any short fall and begin construction in 2004.  We reviewed the replies from the public on the Environmental Impact Statement.  Madison Metro is trying to develop park and ride sites, but is hampered by budget constraints.

Nancy Finley and Barb Essock from Historic Madison are here to ask us to be the neighborhood in this year’s Alternative Parade of Homes.  They would need at minimum 10 homes open to the public.  They would also need about four individuals per house to help during the tour.  It was also mentioned it would be a good opportunity for fund raising activities on our part.  A motion was made, seconded and passed without  objection to support them in this endeavor.

The new owners/operators of Tase¢ Café would like our support in obtaining a beer/wine license.  They would like to serve these with their bakery and café items.  They would be closing sometime between 9 and 11 pm.  So they would not be a late night venue.  A motion was made, seconded and passed unanimously to support them.

We held a brainstorming session for ideas of  things for the association to work on in the coming year.  Several items were mentioned.  Dog feces left on sidewalks in certain areas of the neighborhood.  A newsletter.  Trying to reactivate our committees.  What is happening with 638 East Mifflin?  This seems to be a problem address.  Do we wish to maintain our own identity or should we join Capital or Tenney/Lapham neighborhoods?  Beautification of our neighborhood.  Erik Minton mentioned coming up with a plan of what we would like to see developed along East Washington Avenue and maybe form a committee to do so.  If a newsletter is not affordable perhaps an electronic one would work.

Meeting was adjourned.
