Minutes of the Old Market Place Neighborhood Association

25 March, 2002 General Membership Meeting

Attendance - Members:  Bob Sommerfeldt, Lee  Christensen, Erik and Olesya Minton, Pat Brenz, Brenda Konkel, Howard Pesch, Dawn Roemer, Matt Meier, Judy Wilcox.

Nonmember:  Jerry Bridgeman

Signup Lists Circulated:  Attendance.  Handouts:  January and February meeting minutes.

1)       Introductions.

2)       Announcements:  No Announcements.

3)       Reports:  Development Committee was the only one that met and there were only three people present.  They discussed limiting the neighborhood plan to west of Blair Street.  Alderperson Brenda Konkel A) Breese Stevens Field.  Looking for uses for the area if it gets restored/rehabbed.  Would like to have someone talk to us about it at the next meeting.  B) The sign ordinance passed and should be going into effect soon.  Development sites and conditional use areas will have to post a sign with information concerning the issue and pertinent meetings

4)       James Madison Park use for Magic Picnic:  (Bob/Matt) Moved and seconded to allow them use of the park with no conditions if they still wish to do so.  Passed unanimously.

5)       Committee sign-up sheets and volunteer opportunities.  A sign-up sheet was passed around for the gardens in James Madison Park, Take a Stake In the Lakes Dane County's volunteer lakeshore cleanup project, set for two Saturdays, June 15th (Lakes Mendota, Kegonsa, and Wingra) and June 22nd (Lakes Monona and Waubesa), from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Earth Day Challenge on April 20th.   A sheet was also passed around for those interested in attending the next meeting of the East Wash. Group with HNTB.

6)       Development of a neighborhood plan.  There was discussion of the size of the plan, whether is should be limited to west of Blair or for the whole neighborhood.  There was some support for doing the whole area.  Some also wanted to know the difference in funding necessary for the different sized projects.  It was suggested to look into the county BUILD program.  Lee said he would look into it and report back to us next month.
