January 28, 2002 General Membership Meeting

Attendance - Members:  Michael Basford, Pat Brenz, Lee Christensen, Keith Cohen, Fran Ingebritson, Lisa Jansen, Brenda Konkel, Bob Sommerfeldt, Judy Wilcox

1)       Introductions.

2)       Announcements:  Dues are due.  Polling place has moved from Salvation Army to Gates of Heaven.  Sexual Assault on East Johnson: Alderperson Brenda Konkel has requested a meeting with Madison Police Chief Williams and will talk about follow up and communication between neighborhood and MPD.

3)       Reports:  No committee reports.  Alderperson Brenda Konkel A) When streetlights are out, important to report by calling non-emergency police number, giving the location of the lights and asking them to page the electrician about the lights.  B) City will have new budget due to state budget shortfall, and this will mean cuts, including elimination of neighborhood office. C) Sign ordinance: developers must post info about projects at sites, give dates of relevant meetings.  D) City Comprehensive Planning Process: a three-year process with public meetings, web site, opportunities to get involved. E) Parking Lot on East Dayton that is owned by City Water Utility will likely be purchased by Habitat for Humanity, seeking Council okay without going through usual disposal process (no objections raised at this OMPNA meeting).  County Board Representative Judy Wilcox A) County budget will be cut approximately four percent, and they are looking for individual cuts rather than across the board cuts.  There is a hiring freeze in place. B) Wilcox went on trip to Milwaukee and Racine to view AODA treatment facilities.  Looking for alternatives to jail for alcohol or drug related incidents.  Plan to introduce in next budget a 30 – 50-bed treatment facility (locked facility and intensive treatment). C) County and City looking to merge some departments and functions to cut costs.

4)       OMPNA Officer Elections:  (Judy/Keith) Moved and seconded slate, moved nominations, moved unanimous election of slate.  The following officers were elected to new one year terms: 

      President:  Lee Christensen

      Vice President:  Open

      Secretary:  Bob Sommerfeldt

      Treasurer:  Ilse Hecht

In addition, Michael Basford was elected to continue representing OMPNA in EINPC.

5)       Presentation by EINPC East Washington Avenue Reconstruction Project Workgroup (Beth Cannestra) Several important issues are not being addressed by HNTB, the project consulting firm.  OMPNA is not being represented.  Group seeks input from OMPNA.  Meetings are second Mondays.
