Welcome to The Online
edition of Great Blue!

The online edition of Great Blue is here! Please keep in mind that it may take a few minutes for each section to load over a modem, be patient and the page will load and work fine.

The kids and teachers of the Heron Network have built upon our traditions of collaboration and inquiry this year, refining what we've done before, and traveling down some new paths:

We welcomed Wenda Mincberg & class of Randall School to the Heron Network this year.

Many of our classrooms exchanged videos through the Kid-to-Kid Video Project.

Students from Mark Wagler and Dave Jenks' classrooms at Randall and Lincoln schools created scale model "Box Cities" for the Terrace Town 2000 project.

Becky Rosenberg's class at Lincoln immersed themselves in the culture of the Oneida people, helping with their fall corn harvest. The class also engaged in a year-long ecosystem study at the Pothole! This work included students working in focus groups to collect data and answer questions (and raise more) regarding their inquiry projects.

Heron classrooms gathered at a February Inquiry Conference organized by Bob Wiesner. Students had the opportunity to attend two sessions led by individuals who are passionate about their professions and use the spirit of inquiry as they go about their work .

In March, Herons demonstrated their many and varied talents at the annual Great Blue Variety Show, raising funds for our publication. Jane Leahy was the backstage organizer.

In the Sin Fronteras project, Heron students from Lincoln and Hawthorne studied Mexico and created traveling exhibits that were displayed at the Madison Children's Museum.

This fifth edition of the Great Blue journal is a chronicle of some of our journeys. Visit us at our web site (http://danenet.wicip.org/heron). Help us build new traditions and journeys. Fly with us into the "great blue."
