Project New Zealand
Two guys approaching their thirties are planning to cycle the length of both the islands of New Zealand, recording their progress on this site. There will be photographs and quicktime videos uploaded, and they'll respond to email. The site is screamingly professional, with the sort of graphical tricks that make you wonder how it's done. The trip starts on February 22, 1997, and if you can get a T1 line by then, that's the time to stop back.

Biking Across the USA
John Dorsey made this eight-week trip in April and May of 1997, and is putting together this excellent trip report as he finds the time. It's well-written, inspiring, and peppered with good photographs, including a section of photos of (mostly) disgusting signs he found on the ride. Also, hints for doing your own trip, such as a recommended equipment list. Good stuff.

And, a nice collection of links (for when you through here). South America

Patagonia 98
Crusing the Southern tip of South America. "he trip took about two months and was a more than a personal success. It was the opening of a door to a different world: a landscape of ice-covered mountains and arrid plains, forests full of flowers and trees I had never seen before, and a community of hard-working, honest and friendly people."

A Hot Lap in the Atlas Mountains
"Hüseyin Urkmez and Yusuf Özbek started pedalling in Gibraltar, climbed the Rif Mountains, passed through the Jebel Sharo desert and in the High Atlas Mountains cycled up to the 4,165 m peak of Mt Toubkal." That's in Morocco, and this is one article from the December 1995 issue of the Turkish travel magazine Atlas Travel Magazine, which is liberally peppered with delicious photographs. A Journey to Nordreisa - Raisi in Norway
The author, Jarmo Hupli, made this trip in August 1997 and can't say enough good about his experience. This page offers well-written commentary and excellent photos from his trip. The area is in Lapland-- northern Norway near the border with Finland, where the natives are Finnish-speaking ethnic Kvens. The site offers some interesting background information on their culture and struggles to maintain that culture in the face of official antipathy from the Norwegian government.

Rob and Mary's World Cycle Tour
I don't know about you, but I'm usually not sure what I'm going to be doing in ten minutes, much less in four year, but these folks do. Starting in February, 1998, and finishing in October 2001, this married couple plan to cycle around the world, posting reports to this page. Will there even be a World Wide Web in four years, like there wasn't much more than four years ago? Will CompuServe still be in business? Will Rob and Mary have chosen other partners, or switched to SUVs? Stop back here regularly and find out.
[Added January 10, 1998.]

Chain Reaction
Lots of tour reports from Mexico and other fun places. They say:
"Chain Reaction is an organization founded to support the unique collaborative efforts of visual artist Holly Hughes and her partner, George MacLeod, to initiate community revitalization through the creation of public art. The mission of Chain Reaction is to simulate individual creativity and heighten environmental awareness. Its goal is to share experiences which help to build a foundation of better understanding and communication within communities and between different peoples of the world.
"An artist for over 20 years, Holly Hughes, and her partner of ten years, George MacLeod, have spent the past three years travelling over 30,000 miles and leading community projects in Mexico, New Mexico, and Central America. They call themselves Chain Reaction because they have seen how taking time to share a creative idea with just one person can stimulate an exciting change for an entire community."

Caryl And Brian's World Wide Bicycle Adventure
Caryl and Brian are two former aerospace engineers that quit their jobs to bike around the country, then the world, for a brief ten-to-fifteen year period-- hardly time enough to relax. Before they did that, they set up a network of electronic penpals. This site is maintained by two of them pals-- "Wendy and Jeff"--and contains background information plus an archive of the newsletters they issued. The most recent-- number 49-- was dated February 2, 1998.
There are also some other trip reports at this site, from a variety of other reporters-- such as Wendy and Jeff's Ireland Trip, which was completed in September 1996.
