-
"The site currently offers detailed information about the upcoming
race, a monthly sweepstakes, weekly training tips from professional
cyclists, interviews, etc. The site will also carry actual race
photos and footage from June 16-21, during the race itself." Deep
content. I particularly enjoyed this snippet from the feature
article section:
It was one of the rare crashes in the IWC. The year was 1995.
Olympian Alison Dunlap wrecked badly, landing face first on the
road. Her body was bloodied and bruised. The pavement had claimed
skin and teeth. There the medical staff - volunteers from the
local clinic - tended to her road rash. They removed gravel from
her skin and performed three root canals. Dunlap, shaken but not
slowed, competed that night in the Criterium.

cyclists and the team members will earn points when they finish in

RAAM Online
-
RAAM is the Race Across AMerica, an annual ultramarathon
west-to-east crossing of the United States. The 1998 edition is the
17th thereof, reportedly the flattest and best-supported ever.
Unfortunately for the riders, it's also a southerly route, with
many miles in hot-hot Texas. It started on July 23rd. Check this
site for results, history, and background information. You can
download the route book in PDF.

Vuelta Ciclista a
Espana 1995
-
It looks pretty good, but it's in Spanish-- my high-school Spanish
has deteriorated to the point where I could use a nice description
of this page from a third party. I do know this: La Vuelta is a big
race in Spain that runs from September 19 through September 28,
1995.
-
1998 World Cup of Track Cycling
-
Being held May 28-30, 1998, at Juan de Fuca Velodrome in Victoria
BC, this event will attract riders from 20 countries an probably be
a blast. One would suspect that
Bianchi sponsored the event from all the celeste on the page,
but there is not mention of that.
[Added April 19, 1998.]
You'll often find the same link in the comprehensive events list and in the touring events or, more likely, the multiday tours list. We list them here
because so many of these rides are annual, and you might find
information about the next installment of a ride by following these
links some substantial amount of time before the editor gets around
to adding them to the events lists.
-
AIDS Rides
-
There are a variety of these very successful fund-raising rides,
more each year, sponsored by Tanqueray. They are controversial for
the unusually low amount of funds that they generate for AIDS
charities, their putative reason for existence. The site is
currently under revision and totally empty.

Ride for the
Roses
-
As is well known, Lance Armstrong, perhaps America's best-known
professional cyclist, recently survived a bout with testicular
cancer. In the process, he formed the Lance Armstrong Foundation,
which has as its mission "to fight urologic cancer through
awareness, education, and research." To that end, the foundation
each year sponsors this supported century ride in Austin, Texas.
Another project is the Peloton Project, which rewards
fund-raising with an expenses-paid trip to the Ride for the
Roses.

Not for profit. The page is also a resource for discovering other

The World-Wide
Bicycle Tour Directory
-
Rather than a site about an individual touring event, this is a
site about all touring events: it's a big, searchable list
of tours around the world. For example, search for one-day
recumbent rides in Wisconsin during the month of July, or multi-day
off-road tours of Costa Rica in August. They claim, at this
writing, to have 5000 tours in their database. Both commercial and
non-profit tours are listed, and there are forms for entering your
own tours.

"Building Liveable Communities with Transit" is the theme of this

transportation investments to make better communities. To
accomodate a broad range of people, there will be everything from
introductory 'how-to' sessions to in-depth toolbox sessions for the
veterans." September 12-16, 1998, in Portland, Oregon, which means

18-mile extension to Portland's light rail system. Scholarships are
available from STPP, the application deadline for which is July 10,

the Vietnamese cities that are on the itinerary. Other features
include a teachers' guide and the ability to send questions to the
