The University of Wisconsin is currently developing a master plan for the Madison campus. Various options have the potential to impact bicycle commuters, both directly-- by changing the configuration of traffic patterns on campus, and indirectly-- by changing traffic volumes on arteries leading to the campus. This document is basically notes from the author's participation in a committee of the Regent Neighborhood Association, which is following developments closely.
The Master Plan is being developed by the JJR consulting firm, based in Ann Arbor. As of this writing (May 5, 1995), the process is roughly one third complete, and has resulted in the development of a composite plan, which combines elements of three earlier "concept plans."
On April 27, 1995, the composite plan was unveiled at a meeting of the Community Concerns Committee. Here is a scan of the document that was distributed at that meeting.
On March 28, 1995, before the composite plan was unveiled, planners from the University and one of the JJ&R consultants made a presentation on the campus master plan to the Madison Transportation Commission. Here are the minutes of that presentation.
Mike Varda, a member of the Regent Neighborhood Association committee following the campus master plan process, proposed a formal procedure for community comment on the plan. The process was accepted by the University. Here are the comments of BTA Action and Research Coordinator Mark Shahan, submitted within the framework of that process, dated June 15, 1995.
The author has a great deal of other hardcopy information on the proposals. Some of that will likely appear here in the near term as it can be converted to softcopy.
